Student Leadership
THA Student Leadership Rationale
- The THA Student Leadership Development Programme is a strategic initiative designed to empower young people, specifically those aged 14-16, with essential skills and qualities to thrive as leaders in both their personal and professional lives. As the world becomes more interconnected, competitive and dynamic, the need for capable and ethical leaders is greater than ever. The development of leadership skills at an early age can have far-reaching impacts on a young person's future, helping them become more confident, resilient, and capable of driving positive change in their communities and beyond.
- The Programme is more than just an opportunity for our students to learn how to lead; it's an investment in their personal development and the health of their communities, and their futures. By equipping young people with the skills, confidence, and mindset required to lead effectively, the programme helps create a generation of capable, empathetic, and empowered individuals who are ready to tackle the challenges of the future.
- In a world where leadership is needed in all areas of life, from community activism to the workforce-giving teenagers the tools to develop strong leadership skills now will have a lasting, positive impact on their lives and our society.
Junior Leadership Team (JLT)
- At Thistley Hough Academy, students in Years 10 and 11 form our 15-member Junior Leadership Team. The rigorous application and interview process takes place in June, when students are in Years 9 and 10. Candidates are interviewed by a panel of staff and are required to present a supporting presentation for their application.
- Students can apply for roles such as Student Principal, Student Vice Principal, or Student Assistant Principal within one of the following teams: Teaching and Learning, Data and Curriculum, or Culture and Community.
- Those who have been part of the Junior Leadership Team in Year 10 can apply for a promotion in Year 11 and will undergo another interview for this opportunity.
- If selected, students will receive the prestigious Black Blazer, along with a colored tie that represents the team they have been chosen to lead.
- Members of the Junior Leadership Team will also participate in a comprehensive Leadership Development Programme, focusing on key areas such as confidence, teamwork, public speaking, and emotional intelligence.

Sports Leaders
Thistley Hough Academy's Sports Leaders play a pivotal role in enhancing the school's sports culture by actively supporting extracurricular clubs, organising fixtures, and collaborating with local primary schools to promote sports events. Their involvement not only enriches the academy's sports programs but also fosters community engagement and encourages younger students to participate in physical activities.
